FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FAQS
HOW DO I TAKE CARE OF MY A/C?

The most important think that a homeowner can in order to maintain his/her HVAC system is to replace the air filter regularly. This is normally a very simple task that should be performed monthly or sooner if needed.
Other simple maintenance tasks that the homeowner can accomplish are:
Trim any excess if vegetation around your condensing unit (outdoor unit). Remove any cut leafs from the area to minimize the chance that they may be suctioned into the condensing coil.
Keep the discharge of the condensate drain line clear of any obstructions. Many times excess mulch, over grown grass, dirt, or some other type of material may create a restriction in the free gravity flow of the condensate drain line.
Yearly battery replacement in the thermostat.
Schedule an annual tune-up with an HVAC professional.

WHICH FACTORS DO I NEED TO CONSIDER TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT A/C SYSTEM FOR ME?

When we ask our customers who has just started the heating and cooling replacement process what their number one priority is, most likely will be saving on their utility bills. Many homeowners don’t even know that heating and cooling systems can offer much more than heating and cooling.
But it is important for them to realize that that there are other important features (other than just simply cooling and heating) related to home comfort benefits, which he/she should be aware of. Once a homeowner realizes that there are solutions for problems they’ve been tolerating, they will be better prepared to choose the appropriate indoor comfort solution for them. Some of the questions that a homeowner should ask himself are:
1.What do you dislike about your current HVAC system?
2.Does anyone in the home have allergies?
3.Does the home have even temperatures throughout? Upstairs and down?
4.Do you have to turn up the television when the current system kicks on?
5.Do you have to turn the air conditioner down (colder) at night to sleep well?
6.What is your average annual heating and cooling energy bill?
7.Have you noticed any “spikes” in voltage or dimming of the lights?

SHOULD I REPLACE OR REPAIR MY A/C SYSTEM?

Normally if your existing system is over 10-12 years old, the chances of frequent and expensive repairs increases dramatically. Any costly repair, such as compressor replacement or the like should trigger a flag to consider replacing the whole system before you commit to a large disbursement in a single repair with limited or no warranty at all. The information provided by your A/C contractor related to the overall shape of your system should weight strongly in your decision. Other important information includes: history of past repairs, average annual heating and cooling energy bill, “spikes” in voltage or dimming of the lights, noisy equipment (indoor unit, outdoor unit or maybe even both), frequent resetting of breakers or replacement of A/C fuses.
